Is this the right printer for you?

Who the KIP 2300 Scanner includes KIP System K Image Pro Software is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You scan color, photographic, or fine-detail wide-format originals and need CCD optics.
  • You scan thick or rigid media (mounted boards, foam-core, artwork) up to 0.6 inches thick.
  • You're a reprographer or archive shop where scan quality is part of your product.
  • You want USB 3.0 SuperSpeed for fast scan-to-PC workflows.
  • You need a standalone scanner separate from your existing printer.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine if you scan mostly color but occasionally do B&W production runs.
  • It's fine if you need to add wide-format scanning to a non-KIP printer setup.
  • It's fine if you want a scanner you can move between two printer stations.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if you only scan B&W line drawings — a CIS scanner is cheaper.
  • Skip this if you need print, scan, and copy in one footprint — get a KIP MFP like the 780C or 980 instead.
  • Skip this if you need an automatic document feeder for batch scanning of separate sheets.
  • Skip this if you need wireless connectivity — this is wired-only (USB 3.0 + Ethernet).
  • Skip this if your scan volume doesn't justify a production-grade CCD price tag.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The KIP 2300 (SYS2300IP) is a standalone 42-inch wide-format CCD production scanner with KIP System K Image Pro software included. 600 x 600 dpi optical resolution, RTT (Real Time Thresholding) for sharp B&W and color output, scans up to 12 ips B&W or 6 ips color, handles rigid media up to 0.6 inches thick (so it works for mounted boards, foam-core originals, and thick artwork — not just paper). USB 3.0 SuperSpeed for fast data transfer, no warm-up time. This is the scanner you buy when you have a printer you like and you need to add production-quality wide-format scanning, or when you're running multi-station shops where one operator scans while others print. The 1 thing buyers regret: buying a CCD scanner of this caliber for a workflow that's mostly B&W line drawings. The 720 CIS scanner that ships built into the 760C/780C/980 series is dramatically cheaper and handles line work just fine. Buy the 2300 only when scan quality, thick-media support, or color fidelity actually matters for your output.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

FAQ

KIP 2300 Scanner includes KIP System K Image Pro Software, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (305) 594-0470 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

The KIP 2300 Scanner ships with a starter toner cartridge that supports high-yield production, allowing 7,200 sq. ft./hr (B&W) and 5,760 sq. ft./hr (Color) output. Replacement toner models are designed for high-capacity use in production environments. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The KIP 2300 is a standalone 42-inch wide-format CCD scanner with KIP System K Image Pro software, designed for high-resolution scanning (600 x 600 dpi) and thick media support, while the KIP 7170 is a monochrome MFP with printing capabilities at 4 D-size ppm and a 1-roll configuration. The 2300 focuses on scanning with advanced color fidelity and thick-media handling, whereas the 7170 is a printing-centric MFP for AEC offices and small repro shops. For small offices needing both scanning and printing, the KIP 7170 may be more versatile, but the KIP 2300 excels in dedicated scanning tasks.
The KIP 2300 Scanner is ideal for small businesses requiring high-quality wide-format scanning, especially for thick media or color-critical workflows. However, its specialized scanning focus may exceed the needs of businesses primarily handling standard documents. For broader printing and scanning needs, consider a multifunction printer like the KIP 7170 or explore other commercial options.
The KIP 2300 Scanner is a scanning-only device and does not have printing capabilities. For color printing, consider alternatives like the KIP 780C or KIP 980, which offer both scanning and color printing features.
